Export grades from myCourses to a spreadsheet

If you want to manage grades on a spreadsheet outside of myCourses, you can export the columns and/or grades from the Grades tool. This is also useful for creating a compatible spreadsheet for importing grades into myCourses.

To export final grades to Minerva, use the instructions in Export final grades from myCourses to Minerva.

Steps to export grades

  1. On the Enter Grades page, click Export.

  2. From the Export Grade Items For drop-down list, select All users.

    OR

To export grades for a specific group or section:

    1. Select Groups or Sections from the drop-down list.

    2. Click Apply.

    3. From the drop-down list that appears, select the group or section you want to export grades for.

    4. Click Apply again.

  3. Under Key Field, select how your students will be identified in the spreadsheet:

    • McGill ID: Exports only the students' McGill IDs to the spreadsheet.

In the spreadsheet, the resulting column will be titled OrgDefinedId. Keep this column title if you intend to import this spreadsheet back into myCourses.

    • Username: Exports only the students' McGill Username (first.last@mail.mcgill.ca) to the spreadsheet.

Do not choose this option if you intend to import this spreadsheet back into myCourses.

    • Both: Exports both of the above columns to your spreadsheet.

  4. Under Grade Values, select one or more of the following:

    • Points grade: Select this option if you intend to import the spreadsheet back into myCourses.

    • Grade Scheme : Select this option if you are exporting your grades to Minerva. See Exporting grades to Minerva for more information.

  5. Under Choose Grades to Export, select the checkbox beside each Grade Item to export.

If you intend to import this spreadsheet back into myCourses, do not select any of the following:

    • Calculated or Formula grade items, or the Final Calculated Grade item.
    • Subtotals for any Grade Categories.
  6. Click Export to CSV.
