Blind grade in myCourses

Blind grading is a method of assessment in which the student's name is hidden from the instructor while grading an assignment. This article explains how you can activate blind grading in myCourses by using the Role Switch widget.

Due to technical reasons, this option is currently only available for users with the Instructor role.

Blind grade assignments

  1. Go to your course in myCourses that contains the assignments you want to grade.

  2. In the Role Switch widget, select Blind Grader and click Change Role. You will notice that certain links on your Navigation Bar, such as the Classlist, have disappeared.

  3. Follow the steps in Assess assignments in myCourses. All student names will appear as Anonymous User; email options will be temporarily inaccessible, and profile pictures will appear blank.

  4. When finished grading, use the Role Switch widget to change your role back to Instructor.

While this resource is accessible worldwide, McGill University is on land which has served and continues to serve as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. Teaching and Learning Services acknowledges and thanks the diverse Indigenous peoples whose footsteps mark this territory on which peoples of the world now gather. This land acknowledgment is shared as a starting point to provide context for further learning and action.
