Use the Locker tool in myCourses

Lockers are storage areas in myCourses where you can create or upload files. There are two types of lockers:

  • My locker: All users of myCourses have their own personal locker that is not tied to a specific course. Its capacity is 1MB.

  • Group locker: When instructors create groups in their courses, they can set up a locker for each group to share and edit files. The capacity of these lockers is 5MB.

Access lockers

You can access the Locker tool using the Locker link on the navigation bar or through the Groups tool.

  1. The instructor of the course must edit the navigation bar for the course to add the Locker link to it.

  2. On the Course home page, click the Locker link on the Navigation Bar. This will take you to the My Locker page for your personal locker files.

  3. Click Group Lockers to see a list of all group lockers you have access to in the course. This link will only appear if the instructor has created groups in the course and set up lockers for them.

  4. Click the name of a group to access its locker. Instructors can see all groups in the course. Students can only see the groups they are enrolled in.

  1. The instructor of the course must edit the navigation bar for the course to add the Groups link to it.

  2. The instructor of the course must create groups in myCourses and set up lockers for them.

  3. On the Course home page, click the Groups link on the Navigation Bar.

  4. On the main Groups page, click the Group files link beside a group.
     

    This will take you to the group locker for a specific group.

  5. Click Group lockers to see a list of all group lockers you have access to in the course.

  6. Click My locker to access your personal locker files.

Create group lockers

  1. Edit the navigation bar for your course and add the Groups link to it.

  2. On the main Groups page, click New category.

  3. Select your enrolment options. See creating groups in myCourses for more information.

  4. Under Additional Options, select the checkbox beside Set up lockers.

  5. Click Save.

Delete a group locker

To delete a group locker, you must delete the group or category associated with it.

This will also permanently delete all files in the locker and any assignment submissions made by the group.

  1. On the main Groups page, select the checkbox beside the group or category.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. In the pop-up window that appears, click Delete groups/categories.

Add locker files and folders

On any Locker page, you can do the following:

  • Upload Files from your computer.

  • Click New File to create a new HTML file. See use textboxes in myCourses for more information.

  • Create a New Folder.

Edit a file

  1. Click the arrow beside the name of a file and select Edit.

  2. If the file is a TXT or HTML file, you can edit its contents. If not, you can only edit the Description.

  3. Click Save.

For Group lockers, the name of the last person to edit the file will appear in the Modified by column on the right side of the page.

Manage locker files and folders

On any Locker page, select the checkbox beside a file and click one of the following:

  • Edit: Edits the Descriptions of the selected files and folders.

  • Move: Move one or more files or folders into another folder.

  • Download: Downloads selected files or folders to .zip file.

  • Delete: Permanently delete selected files or folders.

You can also click the arrow beside the name of a file or folder and MoveEdit, or Delete it.
