Provide accommodations for students
Use the Accommodations tool
The Accommodations tool allows you to grant students additional time for all quizzes from the Classlist. You can also permit students to right-click during quizzes. This tool provides an efficient way to address student accommodations, but it is currently limited to the Quiz tool.
Select Classlist on your course Navigation Bar.
Click the down arrow beside a student's name and select Edit Accommodations from the drop-down menu.
Enter appropriate accommodations for the student; you can opt to change the Timing or Controls of a quiz.
Click Save.
Students with quiz accommodations will have a gear icon next to their name in the Classlist.
Grant special access to quizzes and assignments
Quizzes
Special Access allows you to grant specific students a different set of quiz availability dates, timing and late submission options.
While creating or editing a quiz, go to the Availability Dates & Conditions section.
Scroll down to the Special Access heading and click on Manage Special Access.
After setting up Special Access you can view the number of students with Special Access under the Special Access heading.
Assignments
While creating or editing an assignment, select the Restrictions tab (current Assignments Experience) or the Availability Dates & Conditions section (new Assignments Experience).
Use the Special Access menu to click Manage Special Access and select one of the following:
Allow users with special access to submit files outside the normal availability dates for this folder: The assignment is visible to all students. You can Add Users to Special Access to set different submission dates for selected students. For example, if a student is granted an extension.
Only allow users with special access to see this folder: The assignment is hidden from all students except those who have been added to Special Access.
Click Add Users to Special Access.
On the Add Special Access to Quiz page, select a new Due Date, Start Date, and/or End Date.
Select the checkbox beside the name of each student you want to give special access to.
Click Save and continue editing the assignment.

While this resource is accessible worldwide, McGill University is on land which has served and continues to serve as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. Teaching and Learning Services acknowledges and thanks the diverse Indigenous peoples whose footsteps mark this territory on which peoples of the world now gather. This land acknowledgment is shared as a starting point to provide context for further learning and action.
