View and export discussion statistics in myCourses

Discussion statistics show an overview of the activity within your forums and topics, including the number of messages that have been read and authored by each student as well as the number of unapproved and graded messages.

In this article:

View statistics for a specific forum or topic

On the main Discussions page, click the arrow beside the name of the forum or topic and select View Forum Statistics or View Topic Statistics.

The Forum Statistics or Topic Statistics appear along with the User Statistics which display the number of messages that have been authored and read by each student and the number of messages that are unapproved and scored for each student.

You can sort statistics by clicking on any column heading.

Export statistics for a specific forum or topic

You can export discussion statistics to a comma-separated value (.csv) file which can be opened using Excel.

  1. On the main Discussions page, click the arrow beside the name of the forum or topic and select View Forum Statistics or View Topic Statistics. The Forum Statistics or Topic Statistics appear along with the User Statistics which display the number of messages that have been authored and read by each student and the number of messages that are unapproved and scored for each student (see screenshot above).

  2. Click Export to .csv File.

  3. In the pop-up window that appears, click the file name to open or download the .csv file. It can be viewed in Excel.
