Track student activity in myCourses
Instructors can use the Progress tool to view detailed reports about students’ activity in a course. Students can also view their own User Progress page to monitor their own progress in all their courses.
The information on this page is not necessarily an accurate reflection of student work, as there is no way to tell whether or how students are actually using the content. For example, if a student downloads content and studies it offline for an extended period (instead of viewing it within myCourses) it will appear as though they have not viewed any content. Alternately, if a student clicks on all content in myCourses even without reading the material, it will appear as though they have viewed 100% of the content.
Use the Course Overview widget
The Course Overview widget shows you the number of people (e.g., students, teaching assistants) who visited your course in the last seven days, as well as the number of students who submitted quizzes on the current day. You can add this widget to your Course Home page using the instructions in the Customize your course home page with widgets in myCourses article.
You can click the three links at the bottom of the widget for the following information:
Class Engagement: Shows you how many people have not visited your course in the past seven days, all students’ current grades, when they last visited the course, and how many posts they authored in the Discussions tool.
Course Access: Shows you a graph of how many students and other roles (e.g., teaching assistants) visited your course between the dates you select. You can export this information to an Excel spreadsheet in .xlsx or .csv format.
Tool Access: Shows you a pie chart of how many tool interactions occurred in your course in the past year, month, or week. You can export this information to an Excel spreadsheet in .xlsx or .csv format.
