View and release grade statistics in myCourses

After entering or importing grades, instructors can view detailed statistics for each Grade Item or Grade Category. Instructors can also choose to release the Class Average and Grade Distribution chart to students.

In this article:

View grade statistics

On the main Grades page, click the arrow beside the name of a grade item or category and select Statistics.

This will take you to the Class Statistics tab for the selected item or category, where you can view the following information:

  • Number of submitted grades out of the total number of students in your class

  • Minimum score achieved

  • Maximum score achieved

  • Average score

  • Mode

  • Median

  • Standard Deviation

  • Grade Distribution chart

Click the User Statistics tab to view a bar graph of the grades each student received for the item or category.

View grade statistics for a group or section

  1. On the main Grades page, click the arrow beside the name of a grade item or category and select Statistics.

  2. From the View By drop-down list at the top of the page, select Groups or Sections.

  3. Click Apply.

  4. From the Groups or Sections drop-down list that appears, select a group or section to view statistics for.

  5. Click Apply. The page will now show only the statistics for the selected group or section.

To show statistics for the entire class again, select User from the View By drop-down list and click Apply.

Release grade statistics to students

  1. On the Enter Grades page, click the arrow beside the name of a Grade Item or Category and select Edit.
    OR
    On the Manage Grades page, click the name of a Grade Item or Category.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and if necessary, click Show Display Options.

  3. Select the checkbox(es) beside one or both of the following options:

    • Display class average to users.

    • Display grade distribution to users.

  4. Click Save and Close

Students will now see a blue Statistics icon beside the name of the grade item or category in their view of Grades. They can click on this icon to view the class average and/or grade distribution for the grade item or category.
