Can I automate myCourses to remind students for activities they must complete?

Yes, you can. myCourses has a feature called Intelligent Agents which can be configured by an instructor/Teaching Assistant. Intelligent agents can be found in the Course Admin tool.

Google shows me two myCourses. Which one should I use?

If you are a McGill student/instructor/staff who is not in the School of Continuing Studies, please use mycourses2.mcgill.ca.

How can I best communicate with the entire class?

You can post an Announcement that will be displayed on the Course Home page of a specific class. Alternatively, you can use Intelligent Agents to send e-mail reminders based on certain criteria, for example, if students have not completed a quiz before a specific date.

How can I send notifications to students?

See our article Enable and Manage Email and Text Notifications in myCourses. You can also ask students to download the 'Pulse by Brightspace' application on their iOS and Android smartphones. Students will receive mobile alerts when you post announcements or grades.

Can I create groups with myCourses?

Yes. The Groups tool allows you to create groups in your course within one or more Group Categories. For example, you may have a Group Category for a group assignment and another for choosing presentation topics. Each Group Category can have one of three main enrolment types:

Manual Enrolment: The instructor manually enrols students in groups.
Auto-Enrolment: The system automatically assigns students to groups.
Self-Enrolment: Students enrol themselves in the group of their choice.

To access the Groups tool, click Course Admin then Groups. You can find more information about this tool in the Create and Manage Groups in myCourses article.

How can I track if students view course content?

Instructors can track student activity in myCourses with the Class Progress tool.

How do I enable and create custom widgets on my course Homepage?

Can I store my personal files in myCourses and keep them hidden?

We do not recommend that you store personal files in myCourses; it is meant for academic purposes only. To store personal files, You can access Microsoft OneDrive for free as all McGill members are provided with paid licenses.
