Provide feedback and assess portfolio evidence
How you can assess a student's portfolio?
Add categories to evidence.
Add feedback to evidence.
Add private educator notes or comments to evidence.
Add outcomes to evidence.
Add rubrics to evidence.
Spotlight a student’s evidence.
Add categories to evidence
On the Portfolio page, click the student's portfolio tile.
From the evidence tile, click the evidence to categorize.
Scroll to the bottom and under Categorize their work, click Add Category.
To add or manage categories, click on Go to Category Manager.
In the School Categories or Class Categories tabs, select categories that apply to the evidence, for example, science and science fair.
Add feedback to evidence
Feedback that you provide is visible to students.
On the Portfolio page, select the student's portfolio tile.
From the evidence tile, click the Options ( ... ) menu and select Add Feedback.
Under Teacher Feedback, add feedback about the student evidence.
Click Add.
Add private notes or comments to evidence
You can add private notes or comments to evidence submitted by students using Teacher Only section of the feedback. These private notes are not visible to students and can be used to collect assessment notes or reminders that can be used later for evaluation purposes. You have the option to share their private notes with other instructors enrolled in the course who can choose to respond by sharing their private notes.
By default, your private notes remain hidden. Notes that are not shared with other instructors enrolled in the course are marked with the Hidden icon.
In archived courses, instructor roles can see shared private notes from other instructors enrolled in the course. Users that do not, or no longer, have the instructor role in the archived course will not be able to see shared private notes.
Add learning outcomes to evidence
In Course Admin > Learning Outcomes, you can map course materials to learning outcomes by importing learning outcomes from the Achievement Standards Network or by manually creating appropriate outcomes. When learning outcomes are mapped to a course, you can subsequently assign learning outcomes to specific portfolio evidence.
Navigate to Course Admin on your myCourses Navigation Bar.
Select the Learning Outcomes tool under the Assessment heading. Add or import learning outcomes to your course.
Select the Portfolio tool on your Navigation Bar.
Do one of the following:
If the evidence has been approved, on the Class Portfolios tab, browse to the student portfolio.
If the evidence has not been approved, on the Approve Evidence tab, browse to the student.
From the evidence tile menu, select the evidence to which you want to add learning outcomes.
From the Student and Parent list, under Outcomes, click Add Outcomes.
From the list, select learning outcomes related to the student's work.
Click Save.
Add rubrics to evidence
You can add one or more rubrics to a student’s evidence. You can then assess student work with the rubric, which is auto-saved and published. Students can then view your feedback, including rubric criteria, levels, and feedback associated with specific criterions. When adding a rubric to evidence, the Add Rubric button displays previously-created rubrics.
Add a rubric to student evidence
Ensure that the rubric you want to add exists in the Rubrics tool, and make it visible to students.
Select the Portfolio tool on your course Navigation Bar.
On the Portfolio page, click a student's portfolio tile.
From the evidence tile you want to attach a rubric to, click the Options ( ... ) menu and select Add Feedback.
In the Rubrics area, click Add Rubric.
From the available list, select one or more rubrics.
Click Add Selected.
Once you attach a rubric, it appears in the Rubrics area of the evidence.
Assess student evidence with a rubric
From the evidence tile you want to assess, click the Options ( ... ) menu and select Add Feedback.
In the Rubrics area, click the rubric attached to the evidence.
Select the levels of achievement the student has achieved.
Complete any additional feedback you want to add.
Spotlight a student's evidence
Spotlighted Evidence allows you to spotlight a student’s best work, placing it at the top of the page. When no evidence is highlighted, all the saved evidence is listed chronologically under (Student name)’s Evidence. You can filter evidence by spotlighted.
On the Portfolio page, click the student's portfolio tile.
From the evidence tile, click on the star icon to Spotlight Evidence.
