Use SCORM and xAPI in myCourses

You can import questions from textbook files if they are compatible with myCourses (also known as Brightspace). You can also import SCORM-compliant and xAPI objects to myCourses.

In this article:

Add new SCORM packages and xAPI objects

New content experience

After you upload new SCORM solution objects into Content, you can add those objects to Lessons.

  1. On the Course Home page, click Content on the Navigation Bar.

  2. Create or select a Lesson to which you want to upload your file.

  3. Click Add Existing and then select SCORM/xAPI Object.

    1. If you want to upload a new SCORM or xAPI package, click Bulk Upload. Browse one or more files, or drag and drop the files into the upload box.
You can upload up to 50 SCORM or xAPI objects at a time.

      • When the package has built in review/retake logic built in SCORM, Brightspace defaults to Do not add review/retake. You can change this setting during the publishing workflow, navigate to Edit Properties and expand the Advanced Settings area.

      • If you want to change this option for an already imported SCORM object, you will need to re-import the SCORM as this feature is included at the time of processing the SCORM into Brightspace.

    2. If you want to add a previously uploaded SCORM or xAPI package, select it from the list.

  4. Click the ellipsis ( ... ) next to the name of the SCORM/xAPI object for these additional options:

  5. Click Next to add the selected SCORM object, and do one or more of the following:

    1. Add a grade item to the object

    2. Choose the grade calculation method.

    3. Indicate if you want to link to the object with a static link (the current version of the object is always used) or dynamic link (the most recently updated version of the object is always used).

    4. Choose player options (either use an embedded player or open in a new browser window).

  6. Click Add.

Import a Legacy SCORM package

Legacy SCORM packages can be imported to the Content tool. The import function identifies the content as SCORM and allows the proper initialization of SCORM LMS calls. This solution does not support xAPI objects.

You can import SCORM packages containing quiz questions if they are compatible with SCORM 2004 or earlier.

  1. Click Course Admin.

  2. Click Import/Export/Copy Components.

  3. Select Import Components and from a course package.

  4. Click the Browse... button to locate the file containing the questions.

  5. Click Start.

  6. After the file is finished processing, click Continue.

  7. (Optional) Enter a new directory for the files (e.g., SCORM1).

  8. You must select the following options to successfully import SCORM packages:

    • Overwrite the existing file

    • Import metadata

    • Select All Components

  9. Click Continue.

  10. Click Continue again to confirm your selections and start importing the files.

  11. After the files are finished importing, click the Continue button again.

  12. Click View Content to go to the main Content page and view your SCORM item, or click Import another package to add an additional SCORM package.

When you import a SCORM package, it creates a single Module/Unit and Item as part of the import process. After the import process is completed, you can move the Item using the move function in the Content tool to the desired location and delete the unnecessary Module/Unit that was created as part of the import process.

If these steps do not work, your quiz questions or SCORM package may not be compatible with myCourses.
