We recommend that all Zoom recordings be uploaded to the Lecture Recording System to take advantage of the automatic captioning there. You can also add auto-transcripts to your session. For further information, see the Enable Live Transcription in Zoom article.
In general, the Zoom recording feature will capture whatever is visible in your Zoom view, including aspects you choose to screen share (e.g., a PowerPoint or a web page). However, some Zoom features are not recorded, like breakout rooms, chats, and polls.
TAs cannot record a Zoom lecture to the cloud; therefore, they cannot set the Zoom session to automatically enter the Lecture Recording System. They will have to record the lecture locally and manually upload the video, or ask you to schedule the Zoom session with cloud recording enabled.
When you schedule a Zoom session through the myCourses integration and subsequently connect Zoom and the Lecture Recording System, the recording is automatically entered into the LRS and does not appear in your cloud recordings on the Zoom portal. You can download the recording from the LRS if you require another copy. Conversely, if the session does not appear in the LRS after 24 hours, you should check Other Zoom Recordings (LRS > Tools) and/or the Zoom web portal Cloud Recordings section.
As a McGill staff member/student, you are automatically given a Zoom pro license with your McGill e-mail address. Make sure that you login through the mcgill.zoom.us portal that is unique to McGill and not the Zoom website.
There have been some issues with browser extensions, such as ad blockers, interfering with the Lecture Recording System. Ensure that all extensions are turned off. If the issue persists, attempt to access the LRS with another browser or in incognito mode.
Lecture recordings can be downloaded directly from the LRS as long as you have enabled this option. To do so, you must access the LRS Tools pop-up, click Course Settings, then check Enable Downloads. Students can now download recordings from the LRS dashboard, upon expanding the Description and Downloads menu and clicking the computer icon. For further information, see the Lecture Recording Settings in myCourses article.
