Use Willo Labs for e-books and publisher courseware

Please note that Willo Labs has terminated its services, effective January 1, 2025. Instructors currently using Willo Labs to facilitate access to course materials in myCourses should refer to FAQs below to learn how this will impact them, and their students.

Willo Labs was a tool designed to protect student data privacy (as required by McGill’s Cloud Data Directive) while enabling instructors to use publisher content and interactive tools within myCourses. Willo also supported integration of gradable results back into the myCourses gradebook.

FAQs

How does the termination of Willo impact Instructors?

If you are currently using Willo Labs in a Fall 2024 course, you will retain access to courseware and e-books until January 1, 2024. Willo Labs will not be available beyond this point and you will lose access to related course materials.

How do I adopt a new e-book or courseware for my course going forward?

You should contact the McGill bookstore directly and mention that you have an e-book or courseware that you want to adopt. The bookstore will be able to assist you in determining how best to access those materials.

How does the discontinuation of Willo impact students?

Students will continue to have access to their courseware and e-books throughout the Fall 2024 term or until their purchased license expires. However, access to these materials will no longer be available via myCourses.

How will students be able to access old resources going forward?

Students who currently have access to course materials through Willo Labs will need to create a Willo Portal account. They may continue to access course materials through the Willo Portal until their purchased license expires. A detailed guide to setting up a Willo Portal account is available:
Setting Up Willo Portal Account.pdf

How will students enrolled in courses spanning both Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 be impacted?

Students enrolled in multi-term courses may continue to access course materials through the Willo Portal. Instructions for doing so are detailed in the previous question.
