Use Willo Labs for e-Books and publisher courseware

Willo Labs is a new tool designed to protect student data privacy (as required by McGill’s Cloud Data Directive) while enabling instructors to use publisher content and interactive tools within myCourses. Willo also supports integration of gradable results back into the myCourses gradebook.

FAQs

How does Willo Labs work?

Willo Labs acts as middleware that enables McGill to centralize access to publisher courseware and e-books directly through MyCourses. Willo Labs anonymizes student and instructor data as it passes purchase information from the McGill bookstore to them and back to MyCourses.

How do I know what e-books and tools are already available?

Often, the publisher will inform you if their course materials are available through Willo. Otherwise, the McGill bookstore will let you know if Willo Labs can provide access to the required materials.

Can I consult Willo’s catalogue, in case they already have a partnership with a content provider but McGill does not?

Willo’s catalogue is not a tool that is publicly available at the moment. If there is publisher courseware or lab material that you’re looking for, please contact TLS and one of our Support Specialists will follow up with Willo Labs on your behalf.

How do I adopt a new e-book or courseware for my course?

Contact the McGill bookstore directly and mention that you have an e-book or courseware that want to adopt. They will advise you if your courseware or e-book is available through Willo Labs. If the resource isn’t available, a request will be opened on your behalf to see if Willo Labs to accommodate the required material. If your courseware or ebook ends up not being available, the bookstore will provide you an alternative outside of Willo Labs.

For how long can students continue to access Willo Labs content after a course is over?

e-Books are typically perpetual access, though this may vary based on the courseware. The duration period for courseware subscriptions is generally determined by the publisher.

How do I add an e-book or courseware to my course in MyCourses?
