Manage Quizzes, Surveys, and Self Assessments in myCourses

The tasks related to managing quizzes, surveys and self assessments are identical for all three tools, excluding the Copy function. In this article, we use examples from Quizzes, but the instructions can be applied equally to Surveys and Self Assessments

Copy quizzes

The Copy function allows you to create a copy of a quiz to reuse all or parts of a quiz or to test certain quiz properties without changing the original.

  1. On the main Quizzes page, click the arrow beside the quiz Name and select Copy.

  2. Select desired settings on the Edit Quiz page of the quiz copy.

    • Update the quiz Name.

  3. Click Save.

Copy surveys and self assessments

  1. On the main Surveys and Self Assessments page, click More Actions>Copy.

  2. Select the item you want to copy from the Survey or Self Assessment to copy drop-down list.

  3. Enter a new name for the item.

  4. Select the desired option for the item:

    • Hide from Users: Click to check if you want the item to be inactive.

    • Edit survey/self assessment after Copy completes: if this is checked, you will be taken directly to the Edit page after creating your copy.

  5. Click Save.

Reorder quizzes, surveys, and self assessments

The Reorder function allows you to change the order of your quizzes in the list on the main Quizzes page.

  1. On the main Quizzes page, click More Actions > Reorder.

  2. Use the drop-down lists in the Sort Order column to select the order of an item (1 will appear at the top). Other items will automatically reposition themselves according to the new order.

  3. Click Save

Delete quizzes, surveys, and self assessments

  1. On the main Quizzes page, select the check box next to each quiz you want to delete.

  2. On the main Quizzes page, click More Actions > Delete.

  3. Click Delete to confirm the deletion.

Use categories to manage quizzes, surveys, and self assessments

Categories are useful for organizing quizzes, surveys and self assessments by grouping them according to the topic or date.

By default, quizzes/surveys/self assessments are listed in the main page By Availability. To arrange the list by category, select By Category from the View drop-down list and then click Apply.

Quizzes/surveys/self assessments not assigned to a category appear at the top of the By Category view under the heading Without Category.

Create a category

  1. On the main Quizzes page, click Edit Categories.

  2. Click Add Category.

  3. Enter a Name. “New Category” is the default name.

  4. Click Save.

You can also create categories while you are creating quizzes, surveys or self assessments, by clicking Add Category

Add a quiz, survey, or self assessment to a category

  1. On the main Quizzes page, select the checkbox beside each quiz you want to add to a category.

  2. Click Bulk Edit beside the top checkbox.

  3. On the Bulk Edit Quizzes page, select an existing category you want to add the quiz to from the Quiz Category drop-down list or click Add Category to create a new category.

  4. Click Save

Rename categories

  1. On the main Quizzes page, click Edit Categories.

  2. Enter a Name.

  3. Click Save.

Reorder categories

  1. On the main Quizzes page, click Edit Categories.

  2. In the boxes in the Sort Order column, enter the numbers for the order you want to display the categories.

  3. Click the Sort Order column heading to sort categories in ascending or descending order.

  4. Click Save.

Delete categories

  1. On the main Quizzes page, click Edit Categories.

  2. Select the checkbox beside each category you want to delete.

  3. Click the trash can icon at the top of the list.

  4. Click Save and Close.
