Create a Likert Scale Question in myCourses

Likert Questions allow respondents to rate items or statements on a scale. This question type is only available for Surveys; therefore, it can only be created within the Question Library or the Add/Edit Questions page for an individual survey.

There are two parts to a Likert question: Scale and Value.

1) Scale - how the user will rate the items/statements

Choose one of the following:

  • One to Five (1 - 5): Allows respondents to rate the item on a generic 5-point scale.

  • One to Eight (1 - 8): Allows respondents to rate the item on an 8-point scale.

  • One to Ten (1 - 10): Allows respondents to rate the item on a 10-point scale.

  • Agreement Scale (Disagree - Agree): Allows respondents 5 options: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Neutral, Agree, or Strongly Disagree.

  • Satisfaction Scale (Dissatisfied - Satisfied): Allows respondents 5 options: Very Dissatisfied, Dissatisfied, Neutral, Satisfied, or Very Satisfied.

  • Frequency Scale (Never - Always): Allows respondents 5 options: Never, Rarely, Occasionally, Regularly, or Always.

  • Importance Scale (Unimportant - Important): Allows respondents 5 options: Very Unimportant, Unimportant, Neutral, Important, or Very Important.

  • Opposition Scale (Oppose - Support): Allows respondents 5 options: Strongly Oppose, Oppose, Undecided, Support, or Strongly Support.

  • Include an N/A option: Select this checkbox to allow survey respondents an (N/A) option that they can select if the question (value) does not apply to them.

2) Value - the item you want the user to rate

  • Enter a question, statement, text, or even pictures and other media that you want the user to rate.

  • To display fields for additional value items that you want rated, enter a number and click Add Option
